Pakistan secured a stunning seven-wicket victory over New Zealand in the second One Day International (ODI) of the series, chasing down an imposing target of 336 runs with nearly two overs to spare. Fakhar Zaman was the hero of the match, scoring an unbeaten 180 runs off 144 balls, registering his third successive ODI century. His partnership with Babar Azam, who contributed with a well-made 65 runs, provided the foundation for the successful run chase. Mohammad Rizwan’s quick-fire innings at the end of the innings ensured Pakistan reached the target comfortably.
Earlier, New Zealand had scored 335 runs for the loss of five wickets in their innings, with Daryl Mitchell scoring a century and Tom Latham contributing 98 runs. Despite Haris Rauf taking four wickets, the Pakistani bowlers were unable to contain the flow of runs during the middle overs.
In reply, Pakistan started briskly, with Fakhar Zaman continuing his excellent form. Although Babar Azam initially struggled to find his rhythm, he eventually settled in and anchored a crucial partnership with Fakhar. After Babar’s dismissal, Mohammad Rizwan came to the crease and smashed a quick 34-ball 34, helping Pakistan seal the match.
Overall, it was a dominant performance from Pakistan, who chased down their second-highest ODI total with ease. Fakhar Zaman’s unbeaten knock of 180 runs was the standout performance of the match. Pakistan now leads the three-match series 2-0, and the third and final ODI will be held on May 3.
