England’s cricket team has received a boost ahead of their upcoming Ashes Test series against Australia, as experienced batter Jonny Bairstow has returned to the crease for the first time in eight months. Bairstow turned out for the Yorkshire second XI against Nottinghamshire, in what was his first hit-out since breaking his leg in September last year. During the match, Bairstow looked comfortable as he compiled a steady 97, hitting 13 fours and two massive sixes during his 88-ball stay. The right-hander’s form is an encouraging sign for England, as he had been in career-best form before his injury, hitting six centuries for his country and playing a major role in England’s renaissance under new coach Brendon McCullum. Bairstow is now in contention to win his spot back in England’s Test XI this summer, although he may have to do so through the guise as wicket-keeper.
